Eskom and energy and chemical enterprise, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and investigate potential long term liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

This is according to a joint statement by the two organizations, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to find out the possible volumes that South Africa demands to ascertain a practical LNG import industry, combined with the enabling infrastructure, and may be facilitated by government-to-authorities relations where by required."

"This initiative focuses on employing gasoline for ability generation to offer critical base load electric power and position gas as being a essential enabler of re-industrialisation, though also making certain ongoing supply to the industry by unlocking international LNG resources.
